Alvine Beecher Thomas, Sr. COLUMBIA: Service for Alvine B. "Tom" Thomas, Sr., 70, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2011, at Gantt Street Baptist Church (Old Sanctuary), officiated by Rev. Gene Rowell. Interment will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2011, at Bush River Memorial Gardens with Military Rites. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of Victory Sunday School Class of Gantt St. Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gantt St. Baptist Church, Mission Fund, 2121 Gantt St., Cayce, SC 29033 or to a charity of one's choice. Mr. Thomas went to be with his Lord Wednesday, November 9, 2011. Born October 21, 1941, in Athens, TN, he was the son of the late William Lloyd Thomas and Lena V. Belcher Thomas. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict and toured in Germany. . He was retired from Estes Express Lines. Mr. Thomas was a member of Gantt Street Baptist Church; he loved his church, gardening and fishing; and adored his family and four grandsons. Surviving are his loving wife of 46 years, Patricia "Trish" R. Thomas of Columbia; daughter Melissa Thomas and special daughter, Andrea Branham both of Columbia; son, Alvine Thomas, Jr., and wife, Lisa of Lancaster; four grandchildren, Steven, Brandon, Chad, and Dustin Thomas all of Lancaster; four sisters and two brothers of TN and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and one sister.
