Obituary of Margaret Ann Pritchett Short

COLUMBIA-Margaret Ann Pritchett Short, 90, entered the presence of our Lord on Saturday, April 26, 2014. Born in Petersburg, Va., Margaret Ann "Mockie" was born to William Woodlief and Beatrice Reams Pritchett on November 24, 1923. She was raised in Petersburg, Va., and attended Petersburg High School. She continued her education at Farmville State Teachers College and graduated from the Medical College of Virginia School of Nursing. She and her husband relocated to Columbia, SC in 1949 as a result of his career with the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. Margaret spent almost 40 years in her chosen profession as a registered nurse. She also attended The University of South Carolina to further her education in the School of Public Health and was employed by the Richland County Health Dept. as a public health nurse and finished her career in Richland County School District Two as the district nurse. She was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Mutt" F. Short and her six siblings; Gladys Cogle, Ruth Ella Streeter, William Pritchett II, Frances Lippincott, Nell Gordon, and Jean Williams. She is survived by one daughter, Cindy Short Childers (Jim); two sons, William F. Short II and Dr. Jeffrey K. Short (Lisa); four grandchildren, Amy and Jay Childers and William and Sam Short. Margaret was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be remembered for her devotion to her family along with her compassion and support as a nurse for the underserved communities in Columbia . A graveside service for Margaret Pritchett Short will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2014 in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209. A celebration of life luncheon will be held immediately following the service at the home of Jim and Cindy Childers in the Horrell Hill Community.
