A Life Remembered

A Celebration of Life for Versia “Toby” Taylor, 86, of West Columbia, will be held at 2 p.m. on September 24, 2022, at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. The family will receive friends for visitation from 12:30-1:45 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Versia passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 11, 2022.

Toby was born on July 20, 1936 in Conway, SC to the late John and Leila Bellamy. She graduated from Conway High School.  She spent many years caring for her family, moving to several states as her late husband was an Air Force Sergeant.  She eventually settled in Lexington, where she lived the rest of her life. 

First and foremost, SHE LOVED helping and giving to everyone. She had the heart of an angel and was always thinking about others first. She was always there to give to anyone who needed help. Anywhere from socks, shoes, food, a spare dime, food for the hungry and even hugs to those who needed them.  SHE LOVED to dance; SHE LOVED to iron as she found it comforting and peaceful; SHE LOVED working in her flower gardens and always adding artificial flowers so she would have color year-round. Toby lived to help others as she did for the 25 years that she owned Terry’s Diner.  “The Diner” was her home away from home where everyone called her “Mom” or “Grandma.”

Survivors include daughters, Sarah Timmons (Neal), Cindy Cox, Theresa Rhodes (Rick), and Debbie Wallace (Bobby); a son, Terrance Cooper; adopted by heart James “BJ” Kepler; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; loving sisters, Lola Rabon, Lita Hendricks , Lanna Harris, and Debbie Hardin, and a brother Leon Bellamy. Toby was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jack Taylor; brother, John Bellamy; and a sister, Peggy Walker.
