Michael Covington

Obituary of Michael Wayne Covington

Mike was born on April 15th, 1948, and was a Navy Veteran that loved telling stories about his time in the service. He loved his family with everything that he had. He never missed a game, graduation, or celebration. There was no one he adored more than the love of his life, soul mate and best friend, Rena. They spent 38 beautiful years raising their children, traveling, fishing, camping and doing anything as long as it included each other. Mike was a true friend to anyone that new him and was always there when you needed a shoulder to cry on or someone to make you laugh. If you were really special to him, he gave you life savers candy when having a bad day. His jokes, his laughter, his genuine smile, helping hand, tight hugs, and words of encouragement will truly be missed.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Covington; his mother, Linda Winchel; sisters, Doris Kyle, Hilda Price and Joyce Jones; brothers, Clyde Covington and Albert Covington; and two precious grandsons, Matthew Cushman and Justin Chaffin.

He is survived by his wife, Rena Covington; his four children, Shawn Covington (Chris Controne) of Columbia, Angela Steele (Chris) of Eastover, Amy Cushman (Brady) of Eastover, Jim Chaffin (Marietta); his brother and best friend Jimmy Rollins of Fredericksburg, VA; six grandchildren, Corey, Caitlin (Avery), Ansley, Kamdyn, Cody and Devin; 3 great grandchildren; and an abundance of other family and friends.

A graveside service will be held at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery, September 15th at 10:00 AM. Flowers can be sent to the Thompson Funeral Home, 845 Leesburg Rd., Columbia, SC.
