Obituary of James E. Giles

James Edward Giles (Jimmy), 64, of West Columbia, South Carolina, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2022. He was born March 25, 1958 in Harlan, Kentucky to Carl Ed Giles and the late Willa Jean Giles. In addition to his mother, Jimmy was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Kenny Karst; and two sets of grandparents, Henry and Thelma Giles, and James and Thelma Rickett.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Jean Giles; daughters, Kristen Talley (Scott), and Kimberly Evans; mother-in-law, Betty Karst; sister, Trenia Taylor (Matt); brother-in-law, Robbie Karst (Nancy); nephews, Matthew Taylor (Hope), Drew Karst (Jackie), and Tyler O'Shields (Laysha) ; and three beloved granddaughters, Kayla Talley, Olivia Talley, and Catherine Talley.

Jimmy was a member at Living Faith Victory Church. He retired from AT&T, where he worked for 21 years. He also worked at Giles Moving and Storage, a family business in Harlan, Kentucky, for 21 years. Jimmy loved computers, travelling (especially to Disney), and spending time with family. He will be dearly missed by a host of family and friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 12:30 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC, with funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Celestial Memorial Gardens, 3111 Delree Street, West Columbia, SC.
