Obituary of Alice Opal Besier

Alice Opal Besier passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, October 11, 2021, at age 105. She was born in Toledo, OH in 1916, and lived there with her husband, William, and their two daughters for over 60 years.

After her children left home, she returned to college to become an LPN. This exemplified her ongoing concern for serving people in both her church and community. After Mr. Besier died in 1977, Alice moved to FL for 10 years. She then moved to Columbia, SC, where she lived at Christopher Towers. She was very active in various volunteer projects, bringing meals to friends in the Towers, and also tending to the garden area. Her attitude and actions in serving gained her recognition when the Towers honored her with a celebration and a bench with her name engraved on it. She was also recognized by the State of South Carolina as a Volunteer of the Year.  Her last six years, she lived at White Oak Manor in Columbia.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary (Chuck) of Langhorne, PA, and Jennie of Columbia, who faithfully cared for mother for 30 years; granddaughter, Heather; and six great-grandchildren in PA.

The funeral service will be held at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park on Monday, October 18, 2021 at 11:00am, with visitation at 10:00am. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
