Obituary of William L. "Bill" DuBose

William “Bill” L. DuBose, 82, of Lexington, SC, passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2021. The funeral service will take place Friday, April 30, 2021 at 3:00pm at Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church in Lexington, SC. Burial will follow at Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC.

Born in Sumter, SC on September 29, 1938, Bill was the son of the late W.L. “Roy” and Dorothy B. DuBose, Sr. Bill graduated from Chicora High School in Charleston, SC. He attended USC and then started working as an insurance agent at Calhoun Life, which then became Palmetto Life. He eventually became a State Farm agent and faithfully served his clients for 27 years. He also served as a Lexington County Juvenile Arbitrator for 20 years. He was a member of Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church in Chapin, SC, for 24 years, where he taught Sunday School and served on Church Council. After moving to Lexington, SC, he joined Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church,
where he was an active member for 16 years and served on the Finance Committee. Bill was also a Master Mason with Hammerton Lodge No. 332 in North Charleston and received his Fifty-Year Certificate in 2014.

His hobbies included woodworking, fishing, watching USC baseball and the Atlanta Braves. Granddaddy enjoyed sunsets, Corvettes, ice cream, Diet Pepsi, raising pigeons, and eating hotdogs and chocolate. He used his woodworking skills to make his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren beautiful creations that they will treasure forever. He also dearly loved Prissy and Bella, his faithful four-legged companions.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Claudia Cooper DuBose. They had many adventures together and loved spending time at Edisto. Bill was proud of the life he built with Claudia which include their 5 children: Kathy Hill (Tony) of Lexington, Steve DuBose of Fort Mill, Terri Brock (Alan) of Lexington, Tonya Reynolds (Ike) of Lexington, and Mike DuBose (Daphne) of Prosperity. His grandchildren and great grandchildren brought him pure joy and he loved spending time with each of them. His grandchildren include: Jason Hill (Marissa), Jenna Lake (Carter), Jacob DuBose, Whitney Egan (Kevin), Sidney Brock (Addie), Cooper Reynolds, Avery DuBose, and Lucas Reynolds. His great grandchildren include: Brinkley, Arleigh, and Liam Hill; Taylor Lake; and James Egan. Bill is also survived by his sister, Ann Webster, of Charleston. Bill was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Caitlin Hill.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Oliver Gospel Mission, 1100 Taylor St. Columbia, SC 29201; Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church, 1205 Old Cherokee Rd. Lexington, SC 29072; or Columbia Women’s Shelter, 3425 N. Main St. Columbia, SC 29203, which were all charities that Bill supported.
