Obituary of Joseph Walker Truluck, Jr.

Joseph Walker Truluck, 88, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 7, 2021, while at home with his family. Born on November 8, 1932 in Olanta, SC, Joe Walker was the son of Joseph Walker Truluck, Sr. and Lenora Baker Truluck. He attended Olanta High School (’52), and was a catcher on the 1952 State Championship baseball team.

 

Joe Walker served in the Korean War for the US Army. After service, he met and married his sweetheart, Helen McKenzie of Lake City, SC, in 1959. Joe Walker and Helen moved to Columbia, SC and had three children: David, Teresa, and Kim. He retired from civil service at Fort Jackson in 1995, and then drove for Enterprise Rental Company for many years in his retirement. Joe Walker loved the Lord, his family, spending time with friends, traveling, all sports, and anything fast.

 

Joe Walker is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen McKenzie Truluck; son, David Walker (Ann) Truluck; daughter, Teresa (Eddie) Etheredge; grandchildren: Ryan Walker (Megan) Truluck, Lauren Truluck, Kimberly and Olivia Etheredge; and a great-grandson on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved daughter, Kimberly Ann Truluck.

 

A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 11, 2021, 3:00pm at Greenlawn Memorial Park Serenity Gardens.

 

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Joe Walker’s caregiver and lifetime family friend, Renee Wallace, McLeod Home Care, Prisma Health Hospice, Amedisys Home Health, and Dr. Myron Bell, Cardiologist, and team.
